00:10 06.03.2009. (GMT+1)
My hopes are directed at qualifying for the 2009 Women's European Championship 17. I am fully aware that it won't be easy because we did not work much with this generation. Another problem is that we are not playing the qualification with the best of teams for objective reasons. We are expecting great support from the spectators and believe that it shall further stimulate and motivate our team, said Zlatko Causevic, coach of the women's national team of Serbia 17, on the eve of the 2009 European Championship 17 Qualification.

The Qualifications for WEC - Pozega 2009
16:49 20.02.2009. (GMT+1)Dragana Cvijic: „We have a super generation“!
18:37 27.07.2008. (GMT+1)
Now it is official. The results obtained and the recognition expressed show that Serbia has got handball pearls yet to be spoken of worldwide. One of them is Dragana Cvijic (18), the pivot man of the Serbian cadet national team. Officially, she is world’s best player in her generation! With the silver medal brought from Slovakia, handball fans have many reasons to be satisfied.
Hello Dragana! What do you think about the week behind you? You brought the first medal for Serbia as an independent state.
- Firstly, I miss the team. We were working for a month and a half and everything went on so fast. After those four days, we are aware of the success we made. Still, for me that’s not it. We all regret the lost gold medal.
You’ve already said that the Russian were not better. Why then have they won in the finals?
- Because we were scared. We played under some strain and fear in the second half of the match. We were aware that we should not be scared, we knew it was the wrong thing to do, but we could not help it. It is a pity.
In addition to a great collective success, your personal success singles out. You have been chosen for the ideal team of the championship, as the best pivot man, and, also, you were second ranked on list of shooters.
- I am satisfied with that recognition as all of our work had paid off. Still, I would be more satisfied if we have won the gold medal.
For those who don’t know, you have started playing handball on the position of the left back.
- Yes, I have started in Obrenovac. I came to the Red Star Club in 2005 as a left back and than they moved me on to the line.
What can we expect from your generation? We have had a lot of generations which were great at the cadet age and than had been lost during mature age.
- Well, we won’t get lost. We have a great generation. We have to go on working. We had a great cooperation with the coach Markov. He was strict to be working with, but he has taught us a lot during this month and a half and the atmosphere was superb.
Selector Caslav Dincic announced that you will be taking part in the forthcoming senior activities. Is this a great stimulus for you?
- It is a great pleasure for me. Being with these girls is a great thing. I’ll do my best.
